In the splendour of fallen suns
Daria Koltsova
27.09 – 09.11.2024
Opening: 27 September, 6-9 pm
‘The seasons contemplate the light’s confusion
In the arid zones of our thoughts.’
– Etel Adnan, Time, 2019
In the splendour of fallen suns is Daria Koltsova’s first solo exhibition with Suprainfinit showcasing newly commissioned works by the artist. The exhibition blends stained-glass with blown-glass sculptures in an immersive environment and expands the artist’s previous reflections on the fragility of memory and landscape, embedded in multi-generational experiences of displacement.
The exhibition shifts the viewer’s perspective between politics and nature, re-animating landscapes along with our thoughts, emotions and interpretations. Art becomes a way to analyse, discover, commemorate, and rebuild, bringing all the pieces together and creating an immersive experience for the visitor.
Daria Koltsova (b. 1987, Kharkiv, Ukraine) is one of the remarkable figures of the contemporary art scene in Ukraine. Since the annexation of Crimea by Russia and the war in Donbas in 2014, Koltsova’s works have engendered powerful reflections on the effects of war, investigating the possibility of protection, resilience, identity in borderlands, destruction and renewal. Straying away from realistic representations, Koltsova manages to construct powerful affective realms that are at the same time historically situated.
Recent showcases of Daria Koltsova’s works have taken place at the Ludwig Museum in Koln, Albertina Museum in Vienna and ISHO D Pavilion, Art Encounters, Timișoara, to name a few.
In the splendour of fallen suns is co-commissioned with the Odessa Fine Arts Museum, part of the project Becoming After Ruin.
The Becoming After Ruin project is implemented by Suprainfinit Gallery with support of IZOLYATSIA foundation, Trans Europe Halles and Malý Berlín and co-financed by the ZMINA:Rebuilding program, created with the support of the European Union under a dedicated call for proposals to support Ukrainian displaced people and the Ukrainian Cultural and Creative Sectors.
Project co-financed by AFCN.
