CORNER FIELD, Chlorys’s first vitrine solo show and culinary intervention on the sidewalk, curated by Daniela Custrin, opens on Friday, August 25th, starting from 7 PM. This installation is the second one in a series of five artistic interventions created by emerging local artists, part of the project SEQUENCE & Mântuleasa in the vitrine of Suprainfinit Gallery. Every exhibition will be accompanied by a performative, community event on the sidewalk during the opening, aiming to make art accessible to passers-by and fostering a sense of shared experience within the Mântuleasa neighborhood.
CORNER FIELD is a play of words that refers to that place “right around the corner where corn is served’’, with an emphasis on the proximity that makes every corner shop convenient and accessible for the community and the people in the area. The installation challenges the logic of the vitrine in the urban environment, where every neon sign and advertising heralds the promises of consumerism, creating a new urgency of the present in lingering and observation. The corn husks, arranged into floaty thready structures, convey the artist’s resourceful and sustainable approach against waste in the industrialized landscape. Boiled sweet corn, with cheeky condiment serving, prepared by Chlorys, becomes a snack that attempts to fuse the corner, where the vitrine is located, with a sense of familiarity and simplicity.
