Artissima with Peles Duo and Larisa Sitar
Larisa Sitar, Resplendent II, 2024, bas-relief, concrete, 32 x 32cm
SUPRAINFINIT returns to Artissima in Turin with a lively dialogue between Berlin-based artists Peles Duo and Bucharest-based sculptor artist Larisa Sitar, highlighting new works that continue their research and institutional presentations from the last two years.
LARISA SITAR
Larisa Sitar is considered one of the most important artists of her generation, an established name regionally, and more and more internationally. She is a KVOST Scholarship holder and was honoured with the Claus Michaletz Prize in Berlin in 2023. Previously, Larisa Sitar was in residency at WIELS Brussels, followed by her solo exhibition in Wiels Project Room, Robust Boast, curated by Caroline Dumalin in 2019.
One of the main materials used by the artist is concrete — a material with a powerful visual legacy throughout modernism, social realism and brutalism. For several years, the artist has been experimenting with different ways of utilising concrete in her artworks, both as a structure and a medium for integrating unexpected flowing shapes.

PELES DUO
That recurrent motifs in the paintings presented at Artissima come from sculpture, most visibly the Phrygian mother goddess Cybele, is consistent with a practice that has always sought to translate one medium into another, existing work into new work, energy into object. The layering of image, colour and surface in the paintings (whose technique is not limited to the brush but also includes marbled Jesmonite and UV print) creates a palimpsest in which a reference or an idea can become visible without ever becoming dominant.
